A while ago I asked about a Scanner for Linux. Based on the answers, we bought a HP OfficeJet J6424 all-in-one for the office. It’s annoying that we had to buy a scanner with fax and printer functionality but it seems to work well according to David’s report.

I am using 6413 here, and it has this web interface thingie… so you can “scan” from it using Linux.. but still, using windows is a must of this printer. I did not manage to get sane scan to this device (it’s not locally attached, but available only trought the net).
You can put an XD/SD card into the machine and pictures are sent to the Windows machine.
Nice HW, but not really compatible with Linux.
Apparently XSane works fine over the network with HP OfficeJet J6424, with Ubuntu Intrepid and Jaunty, though you first need to configure it as a printer on Intrepid. So you don’t _need_ to use the web interface.
